Illinois Quick Hits: Illinois congresswomen respond to Supreme Court ruling

(The Center Square) – Members of the Illinois congressional delegation offered partisan responses to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision temporarily allowing the Trump administration to use a federal database that verifies whether voters are eligible to participate in an election.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Delia Ramirez said in a social media post it is disappointing that the Supreme Court decided to capitulate and enable an authoritarian.

Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller said the court delivered a major win for election integrity.

CHICAGO PARKING METERS VOTE DELAYED

The Chicago City Council has pushed back a potential vote on an agreement allowing the sale of the city’s parking meter system between two private entities, Chicago Parking Meters LLC and New York-based Stonepeak.

Negotiated terms include the city receiving a $75 million fee from Stonepeak and a 5% share of annual profits.

Aldermen did not vote at a brief meeting on Friday but did schedule another meeting for Tuesday.

ILLINOIS TECH GRADE RISES

Illinois has improved from a B+ to an A- in The Center for Digital Government’s 2026 Digital States Survey.

Iowa and Missouri both got A’s in the biennial report, while Indiana and Wisconsin received A- grades. Kentucky was given a B+.

The survey evaluates how state governments leverage technology to improve constituent engagement, increase efficiency, streamline operations and enhance service delivery. 

EFFINGHAM MAN GETS 38 YEARS FOR PRODUCING CHILD SEX ABUSE MATERIAL

An Effingham man has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for producing child sex abuse material.

According to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office, Landin Miller, 24, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to two counts of video production of child sexual abuse material and two counts of still shot production of child sexual abuse material.

CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE SAMPLING KITS OFFERED

Beginning with the fall 2026 deer hunting season, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says it will offer voluntary mail-in sampling kits to hunters who want to collect lymph node samples from harvested deer for chronic wasting disease testing.

Hunters can request kits online or by contacting a local district wildlife biologist. CWD is a fatal disease of the central nervous system that affects deer and elk.
