NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep 22, 2025--
Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer welcomes technology transactional lawyer Burr Eckstut as head of its US Technology Transactions practice and a partner in its Corporate group in New York.
Burr advises clients on a wide spectrum of IP and technology-driven transactions, including licensing and development agreements, IP acquisitions, joint ventures, and the IP aspects of M&A and other corporate transactions. He has particular expertise in fintech (including digital assets, blockchain technology, financial markets, banking, and payments), energy and infrastructure (with a focus on energy transition technologies), and AI (including commercialization, data licensing and governance).
Burr is recognized by Chambers & Partners as a leading technology transactions practitioner and as an industry leader in fintech.
Burr joins HSF Kramer from White & Case, where he was a partner. He previously held roles at Covington & Burling and Bloomberg LP. He earned a J.D. and M.A. from Duke University and B.A. from Grinnell College.
Justin D'Agostino, Global CEO of HSF Kramer, commented: “We have an ambitious growth plan in the US, and the expansion of our transactional capabilities is a key strategic priority and an important extension of our global platform. Burr’s skills enhance our ability to deliver seamless advice on complex transactions across borders and industries. His experience also complements HSF Kramer’s market-leading practices in the energy and TMT sectors.”
Paul H. Schoeman, Executive Partner, US said, “Burr’s arrival reflects our commitment to expanding our US capabilities in corporate and M&A. Our clients are seeking integrated counsel on transactions that increasingly involve sophisticated IP and technology concerns, and Burr strengthens our ability to meet that demand.”
Howard T. Spilko and Ernest S. Wechsler, Co-Chairs of Corporate, US, commented: “Burr will be a strong resource for our clients and a catalyst for our continued growth in tech-driven transactions. Many clients are navigating increasingly complex deals where IP rights, data, and technology are central to the value thesis. Burr understands these dynamics intimately and adds a valuable dimension to our practice.”
Eckstut said, “HSF Kramer is already a global leader in the technology and energy sectors, and I look forward to contributing to the expansion of its exemplary transactional capabilities in the US. The firm is uniquely well-positioned to grow in the industries where technology, IP and innovation are reshaping business.”
