Democrats now in control of the House of Representatives are looking to strike any reference to God from the oath taken in front of a key House committee.

Fox News reports a new draft shows that the House Committee on Natural Resources, which is chaired by Democratic Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, is moving to remove the phrase “so help you God” from the oath given to witnesses, instead only saying “under penalty of law.”

Republican leaders blasted the proposed change suggesting it was a sign of the Democratic Party's leftward shift. The full committee is set to vote on the new language this week, and the rules would take effect immediately if adopted.
